New Tekila Mexican Restaurant opens in Canton in former John's Bar & Grille location

• Business partners and owners Eder Rodriguez and Carlos Leon both live in Wayne County.

• The menu is extensive with an assortment of house specialties, and is reasonably priced with vegetarian options and a kids' menu.

CANTON - Tekila Mexican Restaurant has opened at 2749 Cleveland Ave. NW in the space formerly occupied by John’s Bar & Grille.

Business partners and owners Eder Rodriguez and Carlos Leon both live in Wayne County and have experience working in Mexican restaurants in the U.S.

Rodriguez said he has worked his way up from busser, chip server, host and server to proud business owner.

Many of the recipes served at Tekila are family specialties passed on from his great grandparents to his Mom’s recipes.

Both 25-year-olds have wanted to open their own restaurant for some time, and their dedication is apparent as they work the floor as greeters, servers and bussers.

Leon said revitalizing their new restaurant took 1½ years, with much of the time spent working on cleaning, electrical work as well as plumbing. The restaurant, with a large bar and two rooms for seating patrons, is clean and welcoming.

The new restaurant, now awaiting approval of its liquor license, will later feature margaritas and freshly made Mexican drinks, including homemade sangria and cantaritos, a classic Mexican citrus and tequila drink served in a traditional clay pot. The restaurant will also feature Cinco De Mayo specials on Sunday, May 5.

The menu is extensive with an assortment of house specialties and is reasonably priced with vegetarian options and a kids' menu. The full menu is available here.

The most popular item so far is the Super Burro Tropical ($13.99), a large burrito filled with grilled chicken, steak, rice and beans and topped with shrimp, chorizo and grilled pineapple smothered in cheese dip.
