Cherokee County Students Place in State Career and Tech Contest
Two Cherokee County School District students earned statewide honors at Georgia’s Career and Technical Instruction Competition, the district announced. The competition offers students the opportunity to demonstrate skills from their chosen Career Pathway, with presentations judged by skilled professionals from that career field. Creekview High School junior Charlie Holderness earned first place in the state for his “Hypeman Holderness” advertising campaign competition entry. His CTI teacher is Ed Walker and his Career Pathway: Marketing and Management teacher is Ashley Jones. River Ridge High School ninth-grader Aiden Maxwell earned sixth place in the state in the CPR skills competition. His CTI teacher is Gabby Garza and his Career Pathway: Healthcare Science teacher is Callie Davis.
Cherokee Schools Superintendent Unveils Proposed Budget
The Cherokee County School District’s proposed $923 million budget for 2024-25 includes raises for teachers and other district employees, as well as investments in school construction projects, Superintendent Mary Elizabeth Davis announced. CANTON — The Goshen Family Resource Center in Canton is now fully renovated to offer more services to the community. The center, located at 230 Marietta Highway in Canton, was renovated by The Goshen Valley Foundation, a local nonprofit focused on helping children in foster care. Two die in tragic house fire
A house fire took the lives of two Jasper residents this week, with the Georgia State Fire Marshal now investigating the case. The incident occurred Monday morning, May 13. At approximately 7:47 a.m. the Jasper Fire Department was dispatched to a residence off Oakmont Drive for a structure fire with entrapment.
