CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN)- As we recognize Arbor Day on Friday, several area forests have more trees in their preserves.

Friday morning, FirstEnergy donated nearly 500 trees to parks in Canfield and North Lima.

Employees volunteered their time by planting the trees.

This is the fourth year in a row First Energy has made tree donations in areas they cover.

It’s part of the company’s initiative to reduce its carbon footprint and promote more responsible use of natural resources.

“FirstEnergy supplies funding for the trees and the tubes here and their manpower here today,” said Nick Derico of Mill Creek Metroparks.

“FirstEnergy has a volunteer time-off program that we allow employees two days per year to help their communities and organizations that matter to them, and like this one, It’s part of our core values of sustainability and environmental stewardship that we’re proud to be part of,” said Dan Havalo of FirstEnergy.

First Energy will also be donating more trees to Buhl Park in Hermitage and Poland Municipal Forest over the next week.
