Canandaigua Record Exchange ready for huge event on Saturday for Record Store Day

Jon Cooley is ready for Saturday's events in Canandaigua. Well, almost ready.

On Wednesday, he was preparing for an in-store scavenger hunt at Canandaigua Record Exchange. The biggest day of the year for vinyl shops is April 20's Record Store Day.

His business is teaming with CMAC to do a ticket giveaway. First, The Avett Brothers have a new record and the store will have a drawing for someone to win the record and tickets to go see the group perform. Second, Saturday's record store holiday will offer Record Exchange customers a chance to buy a record from someone performing at CMAC and possibly find tickets to that show inside.

Cooley said it will be hopping on April 20 — the town also has a big Earth Day event happening. His store opens at 9 a.m. Saturday.

His place at 15 Coy St. — formerly a hair salon — fit what he wanted to do with the business. Looking at it from the street, this is what he envisioned the store to be when he first opened; the size, capabilities, and while not on Main Street, close enough.

“As soon as I saw the place, I fell in love with it,” Cooley said. “The building looks like a record store. It just has that vibe to it. For me, it’s the records on the wall, cool music playing, a place to hang out.”

Pearl Jam and Taylor Swift releases

PEARL JAM: The group is releasing "Dark Matter" on Friday and Record Exchange will have the black vinyl version and the New York variant with splatter. On Saturday, they have the Record Store Day version for sale.

TAYLOR: The store will have "The Tortured Poets Department" white variant vinyl on Friday, with bonus track on it. There will be other versions plus more to come next week.
