UofA World Languages says it's never too late for a second language
Kellams: It's unlikely anybody in the University of Arkansas Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures can help you learn Slim Gaillard's language Vout-O-Reenee, but they can help you with most of the other languages he spoke. And the department will host its annual Connections Fair in the Student Union on campus Wednesday, Sept. 9. We thought this was a great time to learn more about the department and learn more about learning a new language. We invited Linda Jones, chair and professor in the department, and Brenda Magnetti, a teaching assistant professor in the department, to come to our studio. Brenda says every language taught at the university will be represented at the Connections Fair.

Low-scoring first half turns into exciting see-saw finish as Bulldogs drop opener at Bentonville-West
The era of new Head Coach Jason Gill has begun at Greenwood High School, but his Bulldogs struggled early in their season opener last Friday night at Bentonville-West before succumbing late in non-conference play, losing 28-24. It was the first time in four tries that the Class 7A Wolverines have beaten the Bulldogs, now playing in Class 5A. Counting last season’s state championship game loss to Shiloh Christian, the Bulldogs have dropped two games in a row, albeit nine months apart, but still a rare occurrence in GHS football.

The Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas is launching a five-year plan to ensure that students graduate with practical entrepreneurial experience and that faculty have expanded research opportunities. Why it matters: The college, which is 100 years old this year and has more than 10,000 students, must offer education that evolves as "business changes at an unprecedented pace," such as in artificial intelligence and analytics, according to a news release . Walton College will need deeper relationships with the business community around it and be a "living laboratory for business," dean Brent Williams said at an event Wednesday. A business' challenge can become a learning opportunity for a student and a research opportunity for a faculty member. What they're saying: "We want every student to leave with a portfolio of working with actual business challenges," Williams said, adding that the school wants more students to have internships and other work experience before they graduate. The big picture: Walton College's overarching stated goals are to scale applied and experiential learning, accelerate applied and translational research and embed an entrepreneurial mindset. The latest: In the spirit of its applied research goal, the college's faculty is working with
