South Jersey remains warm on Tuesday, April 30, but rain, thunderstorms rolling in later

Temperatures will remain well above normal in South Jersey on Tuesday, April 30, but there is a chance a developing system could produce rain and thunderstorms during the late evening and overnight hours.

If you’re getting ready to head out for the day or just want to know what to expect, here’s a look at the forecast from the National Weather Service.

    Weather in South Jersey

Although cooler than Monday, temperatures in South Jersey should approach 80 degrees by Tuesday afternoon, said Ray Martin, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

"There is a backdoor cold front sliding down today, which is going to keep temperatures down," Martin said. "It'll be a different day, as opposed to the 90 degrees we had on Monday in some areas."

Any rain South Jersey receives will move in much later, and there could be a period of gusty thunderstorms overnight Tuesday.

The National Weather Service provided additional detail in its morning forecast advisory post on X, formerly Twitter:

Martin said there is no additional threat of heavy rain nor winds in South Jersey at least through the rest of the week, although showers could pop up over the next few days.

South Jersey residents could also see an isolated shower early Wednesday, Martin said.

"There could be a stray shower Wednesday morning due to the low-level cloud cover, but that will break up later in the day," Martin said. "We then warm up a bit on Thursday, and then cool down again on Friday."

According to the National Weather Service's 7-day forecast for South Jersey , a few rain showers may show up early Wednesday afternoon as well, but those showers will give way to a mostly sunny afternoon with temperatures in the mid 70s.

Thursday is tracking to be a mostly sunny day, with temperatures rebounding a bit to 80 degrees for the daytime high.

And Friday is shaping up to be a partly sunny day, with temperatures in the low 70s.
