Cal City murder suspect left belongings at crime scene: warrant

    By Jason Kotowski,

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A gunman ran after firing a shot into the head of a man last month at a McDonald’s in California City — but he left something behind.

Police say in a warrant filed this week the shooter abandoned a duffel bag and suitcase containing W-2 and W-4 forms, a child custody order, birth certificate, Los Angeles County citation, photocopy of driver’s license, hospital bracelet and a single round of 9mm ammunition.

The alleged shooter, Cameron Hill, 26, is charged with first-degree murder and gun possession by a felon in the death of Maurice Bailey, 48. He remains at large.

According to the warrant, surveillance footage captured Bailey enter the business with Hill shortly before 12:30 p.m. Bailey carries the suitcase, the filing says, while Hill totes the duffel bag and a trash bag.

Police say Bailey, who was homeless, had been peacefully contacted by officers on numerous occasions. It’s believed he was helping Hill.

Footage shows the men place the bags near the door then enter the bathroom, the warrant says.

There’s a physical confrontation, the warrant says. Bailey is seen leaving the bathroom on his hands and knees while Hill tries to pull him back in, according to the warrant.

Bailey gets up and walks to the lobby. Hill follows.

He draws a gun from his waistband and shoots Bailey in the head, according to the warrant. Then he runs.

Anyone with information on Hill’s whereabouts or information related to the investigation is asked to call the California City Police Department at 760-373-8606
