In Calexico, California, several incidents occurred this week. A carjacking took place, but the victim was not seriously injured and the vehicle was recovered. Calexico police are actively investigating the case. Additionally, the police department dealt with various car-related incidents, including illegal driving maneuvers and alleged theft. A suspect, Joel Alberto Salcido, was found guilty of possessing methamphetamines and driving a stolen vehicle. Lastly, packages of methamphetamine and heroin were discovered hidden in a pickup truck at a port of entry. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers are investigating the case.

A two-car accident Friday night resulted in injuries to four people. The accident occurred at 7:30 p.. at the intersection of Imperial Avenue and Broadway. According to El Centro police there were four people transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center with a variety of injuries. Southbound traffic on Imperial Avenue was shut down for a time as emergency crews worked at the scene. The accident remains under investigation.

This week in El Centro, California, two incidents occurred that impacted the safety of the community. The first incident involved an early morning accident at 5th and Main, resulting in injuries to two individuals. The driver of one of the vehicles involved was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence. The second incident involved shots fired, where a blue Chevy Cruze shot towards a gold Chevy SUV. The suspect, described as a Hispanic male adult, fled the scene. Authorities attempted to locate the victim at local hospitals for gunshot wounds.

A five-car accident sent one person to the hospital and another to jail. The accident occurred shortly before 7:00 p.m. Sundy at Danenberg and Dogwood Roads in El Centro. Five vehicles were involved. One person was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center for injuries sustained in the accident. A 68-year-old man driving one the vehicles admitted to investigating officers that he had been drinking at a near-by bar. After a blood test showed that his Blood Alcohol Content was over three-times the legal limit he was booked into Imperial County Jail on charges of Driving Under the Influence.

Two men were injured in a Sunday night traffic accident. The accident was reported shortly after 10:00 p.m. at Imperial and Pico Avenues in El Centro. The driver of each car in the wreck was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center for treatment. The accident remains under investigation.

(The District Attorney's Office announces verdict)....In July Salcido was found guilty of possession of methamphetamine. This month he was found guilty of driving a vehicle without the owner's consent and receipt of a stolen vehicle. The D.A.'s office says Salcido had been arrested in Calexico after police located a stolen vehicle out of Los Angeles. The Calexico Police also found a vehicle stolen out of Hemet in the same area. Sentencing for Sacido was set for October 18th.

(County Sheriff's Office will participate in a meet and greet)....It will be National Coffee with a Cop Day. It is on Wednesday, October 4th. On that day local Deputy's will be at several locations for some coffee and conversation with the community. The hours will be from 8 to 10 am. Deputy's will be at the Salton City West Shores Senior Center, Niland Cooling Center, Holtville Civic Center, Ocotillo Community Center, The Coffee Shop in Winterhaven and at the 4th Street Starbucks in El Centro.
