‘Positive news’ for Marysville: Judge issues ruling in city’s case against Caltrans over Binney Junction project
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) was ordered to correct “deficiencies” in its environmental reports for its Highway 70 Binney Junction project after Yuba County Superior Court Judge Stephen Berrier sided with the city of Marysville in a petition against the agency, an attorney representing the city confirmed with the Appeal on Friday.
Chico man who murdered local DJ in 2021 sentenced to 50 years to life in prison
BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - A Chico man who murdered a local Chico DJ in 2021 was sentenced to 50 years to life in prison, Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said. 24-year-old Diontanae Tillman was sentenced to the maximum sentence on Wednesday by Butte County Superior Court Judge Corie Caraway for first-degree murder and robbery with a firearm, Ramsey said.
More affordable housing coming to Paradise
PARADISE, Calif. - There is more affordable housing coming to Paradise. There was a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday to celebrate the start of the new project. This project will consist of apartments being built on a 24-acre lot on Cypress Avenue. The apartment complex, Cypress Family Apartments, will have 70 units built throughout for families to live in.
Seasonably warm weekend ahead in Northern California, much cooler than last weekend
SACRAMENTO, Calif — After a hot Wednesday, Thursday will kick off a cooling trend lasting through the weekend. Downtown Sacramento reached 90 degrees Wednesday, lower than the forecast high temperature. This was due to relatively cool, moist winds blowing in from the delta moderating temperatures in the Sacramento area. Further north, away from the delta influence, temperatures rose into the upper 90s but the first 100 degree valley temperatures will have to wait.
Annual fishing derby set for Saturday in Marysville
The 72nd annual Jim Watson Youth Fishing Derby is set to take place this Saturday at Ellis Lake in Marysville. Scheduled to start in the morning, this free event put on by the Kiwanis Club of Marysville is meant to provide a “perfect outing for children and their families,” according to organizers.
