Knoxville Boys 7th, Girls 5th At Newton Bowling Invitational
The Knoxville Bowling Squads were back at Newton on Saturday competing against seven other schools. The boys placed 7th with a score of 2585. Tristen Carter had a high series of 432 and a high game of 227, he also finished 6th individually. For the girls, the Panthers were 5th overall led by Cassidy DeMaderios rolling a high series of 349 and a high game of 213, she placed 3rd individually. Knoxville will return to action next Saturday with a home meet at Statesmen Lanes in Oskaloosa against Newton.
Pella Winter Sports Weekend Update – 12-3-2023
Both bowling and wrestling teams from Pella High School were in tournament action Saturday. Pella continued a strong start to the winter girls wrestling season, placing 3rd at the Newton Cardinal Classic. Pella took three 1st place spots, including Serenity Turner (105), Emmalee Spurgeon (155), and Elaine Babcock (190). Knoxville Wrestlers Bring Home 1st Place From Nodaway Valley
For the 2nd straight season, the Knoxville Wrestling Squad won the Coach Riley Invitational at Nodaway Valley on Saturday getting six wrestlers in the top three and scoring 208 points, beating the host Wolverines by 11 points. Two came away champions for the Panthers as Daniel Gorskikh at 175 pounds and Wayne Johnston won at 190 pounds. 3rd place medals went to Tre DeRaad at 113 pounds, Dane Gullion at 120 pounds, Kale Kincaid at 165 pounds, and Regan Roberts at 285 pounds. Knoxville heads to a quad at North Mahaska on Thursday.
Melcher-Dallas Basketball Squads Play 4 Games This Week
The Melcher-Dallas Basketball Squads will have a busy week starting Monday with a trip to Moravia. That game was supposed to be this past Friday, but was moved to Monday due to no officials being available on Friday. So the Saints will have to play at Moravia Monday, return to host Murray at Southeast Warren on Tuesday, and then travel to Moulton-Udell on Friday and Meskwaki Settlement on Saturday. Girls Coach Kelsey Goff looks at this week as an opportunity to win four games and get a jump on the early season Bluegrass Conference race.
Pine Knolls Golf Club Holding a Membership Drive Today
Pine Knolls Golf Club in Knoxville will hold their 2024 membership drive today. This is an opportunity to renew memberships at the course or become a new member. Pine Knolls is a semi-private course in Knoxville that allows non-members to play three times a season or after Labor Day. The course recently redid their clubhouse and they are open for many events and activities, along with golf. Pine Knolls Clubhouse Manager Maureen Nichols encourages everyone to come out today.

Sidney alum Jorgenson sets new Central record
(Pella) -- Central College runner and Sidney alum Noah Jorgenson has broken another school record. Jorgenson posted a one-mile time of 4:05.18 at the Frigid Bee Opener on Saturday. PCM boys open season with loss to Knoxville
KNOXVILLE — A tough shooting night plagued the PCM boys’ basketball team on Tuesday during a 65-56 road loss to Knoxville. The Mustangs and Panthers were tied at halftime, but the home team pulled away in the second half in part because PCM shot 4-of-17 from 3-point range and made only 6-of-18 from the free-throw line in the non-conference contest.
Knoxville And Pella Bowlers Compete In Newton On Friday
Knoxville and Pella Bowling Squads faced off with Davis County at Newton on Friday. The boys finished 3rd scoring a 2436, while Pella was runner-up to the Mustangs with a 2547 and Davis County won with a total of 2667. For Knoxville Troy Binns had a high series with 364 and Bradyn Meyers had a high game of 193. For the Dutch Alex Bishara led with a 440 series while Zander Beckey shot 376. On the girls side Davis County also won the triangular with a 2153, Pella was 2nd with a 2002, and Knoxville was third with a 1783. Taylor Walker shot 326 to lead Pella and Alaina Rozenboom shot 316. For Knoxville the Panthers were led by Bridgette Reynard with a high series of 324 and a high game of 168. Both Pella and Knoxville will head back to Newton for an invitational today.
Twin Cedars Boys Fall To Wayne In Season Opener
It was a tough opener for the Twin Cedars Boys Basketball Squad as the Sabers suffered a 62-37 loss to Wayne. The Sabers were without Gavin Clark due to injury but Holden Roberts and Kaden Kloster kept the Sabers afloat as best as they could scoring 14 points each. Twin Cedars is 0-1 on the season and will host Ankeny Christian on Friday.

Pella Boys Wrestlers Open in Urbandale
The 2023-24 season begins for a Pella boys wrestling team with high hopes for their upcoming campaign. The Dutch travel to Urbandale for a triangular this evening that will also include the juggernauts from Southeast Polk. Pella Head Coach Jay Pike believes the matches will be a great early season test, especially as both the J-Hawks and Rams will be at Pella’s state qualifying site in Marshalltown at the end of the season. Matches begin at 5:00 this evening in Urbandale.
INDIANS SPLIT WITH TROJANS ON OPENING NIGHT
The Oskaloosa Indians girls and boys basketball teams kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday night at Fairfield. The night began with the girls game, with the lady Indians returning 4 starters (Dasia Foster, Lydia Van Veldhuizen, Kassie Johnson, and Evelyn Adam) from last year’s team that finished with a 9-13 record. Fairfield, meanwhile, also returned 4 starters from their squad last season that finished 2-19.
Knoxville Wrestling Gets Season Underway Tonight Against Nevada
The Knoxville Wrestling Squad will begin the season tonight hosting Nevada. The Panthers return two grapplers that qualified for the State Meet last season in Daniel Gorskikh, and Wayne Johnston while the team is coming off a 9-4 dual mark and won the South Central Conference meet last season. While it may be tough to top that this season, the Panthers under 3rd year Coach Skylar Spaur are looking for more. Spaur wants to win a lot of the Saturday meets Knoxville goes to this season and possibly make the State Dual, which has happened just once in Knoxville Wrestling history. Tonight’s action at Knoxville will begin at 6:00 with JV matches and the varsity at around 7:00.
