On safari: Former Amarilloan shares tales from his hunting adventures in Africa
Donald Jackson was a resident of Amarillo from 1979 through 2007 and was employed at Pantex. Jackson said when he moved away, he left a piece of his heart here, as well as many good friends. Lately, he has been able to make three African safaris, and here he shares a firsthand account of his first trip for his community back in Amarillo. Anticipating his third visit, he said the De Meyers and their staff are like family now, and he is sure of a wonderful adventure when in their care. Information is taken from reports provided by the Environmental Health Department, and individual reports can be viewed at its website, http://amarillo.gov/departments/community-services/environmental-health/foodinspections. A numerical grading system is now being used, with a score of 100 points being equivalent to zero demerits.
Amarillo Reads in the Summer reading program begins June 1
AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Amarillo Public Library’s Amarillo Reads in the Summer program will begin Saturday, June 1. Research reveals that kids who don’t read over the summer can lose as much as 30% of what they learned during the school year. Amarillo Reads in the Summer hopes to help kids retain this information and even strengthen their skills over the summer.

Each week will feature free live entertainment, and a $10 lunch is available from local restaurants.
