PREP FOOTBALL: East downs Sheridan in overtime to advance to 4A title tilt

CHEYENNE – Trace Eldridge connected with Cooper Hassler in the back of the end zone on a two-point conversion in overtime to help send Cheyenne East to the Class 4A state title game with a 15-14 win over Sheridan. The Thunderbirds trailed 7-0 going into the fourth quarter, but Eldridge ripped off a 73-yard touchdown run with 6 minutes, 49 seconds to play. East had a chance to take the lead late, but was forced to punt with less than a minute left. Sheridan drove all the way down to the East 29 with three seconds left, but was unable to convert and sent the game to overtime. The Broncs scored on the first play of overtime to regain the lead and had East at fourth and goal from the half-yard line before Eldridge punched it in to set up the two-point try. “I called for (an extra-point kick) and they talked me out of it,” East coach Chad Goff said. “It took resilience and continuing to get up and come at them.
