Storm Tracker Forecast: Mild Tuesday but a high impact winter storm is ahead
Throw on a warm extra layer and grab your sunglasses before you head out the door Tuesday. The cool and wet system that brought our limited mountain and foothill showers Monday is centered to our northeast and driving breezy north winds across our region early today, but those winds will diminish through this afternoon. High pressure off the coast in the Pacific will drive dry weather, and mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies over northern California Tuesday. You'll want to take advantage of the dry and mild conditions while they last to prepare for a high impact winter storm on the horizon from late this week into this weekend. The lack of cloud cover following the cooler afternoon temperatures from Monday have left us with a chilly start to your Tuesday. Valley and foothill areas are starting out in the 30's to 40's, and our mountain zones have dipped into the teens to 20's overnight. Winds are out of the north to 15mph, and we have the potential for gusts up into the 20mph to 30mph range early today. North winds in the 10mph to 15mph range are expected this afternoon. High temperatures are projected to climb into the low to mid 60's in the valley, 50's in the foothills, and 40's to mid 50's in our mountain zones Tuesday afternoon.

Trinity River - Willow Creek Weir Fish Report for 2-26-2024
Just when we think spring is in the air winter hits us in the face. The daffodils are blooming and we have cold weather coming with possible snow. Thei coming week is looking more like winter Steelhead fishing than spring. Here I have been complaining about the warming and all and Mr. weather shows up. The rivers are dropping and we have a new storm coming upon us. This is really crazy weather. With the high waters it has been hard to find a good place to fish any where on the lower river. I have been saying to wait for the rivers to start dropping and the fishing will pickup but mother nature has different ideas.

Humboldt County Measure A
The way the hysterically freaking-out opponents of Humboldt County’s Measure A describe it, this is a big moment, and a turning point for the county, but maybe it’s just a “nothing burger,” and in two to five years we won’t even remember it, whether it passes or not, and it won’t matter to anyone? There’s a lot of opinions and spin but why hasn’t anyone put together an unbiased fact sheet listing the pros and cons of this ballet measure? (Probably because the only ones who want to spend that kind of time and energy are motivated by self-interest, ie money, the rest of us think weed is pretty much over, and won’t waste our time studying the issue.)

HUMBOLDT HISTORY: The Life and Death of a Difficult Woman — Margaret Murray, Klamath Schoolteacher, 1905
A hastily homemade coffin, lined with white muslin, encased the body of the first Morek schoolteacher, Margaret Sutherland Murray. It was an autumn evening, Tuesday, October 3, 1905, when four men, including Morek school trustee Joe Lewis, at whose home Miss Murray had lived over the past four years, gripped the sides of a litter to carry the coffin down a narrow path, one-and-a-half steep miles to the Klamath River. Following behind the coffin were Joe Lewis’s wife Ida and twenty-year-old Brenda Harmon, a schoolteacher at nearby Mettah and a friend of Miss Murray’s, who had helped prepare her body for its final journey.
