A 1983 BMW found submerged in a Burnsville pond recently is not believed to be linked to any past crime, the Dakota County Sheriff's Office confirmed.

The vehicle, which was first spotted by someone flying a drone over Neil Park, was pulled out of the water by the Sheriff's Office's dive team.

The discovery led to widespread speculation that the vehicle may be tied to an unsolved mystery. In an update Tuesday, the Sheriff's Office put an end to those speculations.

"It appears that the mystery stops here," the agency shared. "There were no bodies or anything suspicious found in the car."

Authorities contacted an elderly man listed as the registered owner and learned he believes he sold or traded the vehicle years ago, although his memory is unclear.

Investigators suspect the title was not transferred and the car was eventually dumped.

"Sorry to disappoint, but we don't think this story will be covered in your favorite true crime podcast," the agency wrote. "It's just a car in a pond."
