Sacred Ground: Trammell Cemetery
Some months back, the Sacred Ground series visited Chitwood Cemetery off Pine Grove Road in Winfield, the final resting place of Revolutionary War veteran James Chitwood. Chitwood, who was from a family that was strongly loyal to the British crown but was himself a Patriot who fought for independence, was just one of two Revolutionary War veterans who settled in what we now know as Winfield soon after the war. The other was Capt. Dennis Trammell. And, like Chitwood, he has a fascinating story to tell.
