Your favorite Chinese spots in Austin
To mark the Lunar New Year, we asked you last week about your favorite Chinese restaurants and your go-to dishes. Liz P. recommends Chen's Noodle House ("the best sesame bun"), in northwest Austin, and Julie's Noodles ("amazing soup dumplings"), on Research Boulevard. "Both are holes in the wall which makes it all the more charming," she writes. Choice K. suggests Twin Lion on Braker Lane. "I usually do a take-out of the large wonton soup, an order of veggie fried rice and two veggie eggrolls. My wife, Trudy, loves the General Tso's chicken. Excellent food. Friendly staff." Nancy K. suggests "any of Chef Ling's restaurants , but especially Ling Kitchen" — also on Research Boulevard — "for her tasting menu." "It's always changing, so no one favorite, but the dim sum menu is ... the best we've had in the U.S. outside of San Francisco." "Order a lychee martini, soup dumplings (xiao long bao, we like the traditional pork, but they come in crab too) and the chicken taro egg rolls for the kiddos and you'll be transported to dim sum heaven!" Tracie Tracey — yes, we checked, that's a real name, ("I married it, then unmarried it, but the

Omakase Fatigue and the Return of the Walk-In Sushi Bar
For the last several years, going out for sushi in Austin has been a tale of two extremes. On one end, the reliable strip mall spots slinging California rolls. On the other hand, a glut of high-ticket, reservation-only omakase counters that require months of planning and a $200-per-head minimum. But in the last few months, something’s shifted: The walk-in sushi bar is back.
