A trio of new Japanese concepts set sights on Utah for expansion
You may have heard rumors about this one bubbling around social media for a little while, but today I can confirm, Uchi is indeed coming to Salt Lake City. This one will undoubtedly have several folks hot under the collar, and for good reason. The Austin-based Hai Hospitaliity produce excellent restaurants. Names on their roster include the stable of Uchi names (Uchi, Uchiko, Uchibā) as well as the intriguing Loro, a collaboration between James Beard-winning chef Tyson Cole (pictured top, credit Uchi) and BBQ pitmaster extraordinaire Aaron Franklin.

A new Mexican restaurant in Murray aims to bring Los Angeles' taco culture to the Wasatch Mountains. The intrigue: La Lola Taco is led by executive chef Luis Perez, known for his Michelin Bib Gourmand–recognized California gastropub, Lola Gaspar . Zoom in: Most meats are cooked over an open flame, layering the tacos with a deep char. Fillings include the staples: mesquite-grilled carne asada, Baja-style battered fish, pork al pastor and more. Diners can add a variety of housemade salsas. You won't be paying fine-dining prices: the tacos range from $4.25 to $5.25 and burritos from $8 to $13.50. The bottom line: As a former Los Angelino turned Salt Laker, I favored their grilled steak and chicken tacos for their smoky flavors.
