WV OMEGA raises $137K for children in need
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP)—The West Virginia Oil Marketers & Grocers Association (OMEGA) raised $137,238 to help children across the state who are dealing with family crises. During their Every Child Deserves a Loving Home Mother’s Day Campaign, brightly colored, Mother’s Day-themed paper flowers were sold at hundreds of OMEGA-member convenience and grocery stores across the state, including Little General Stores, Par MAr stores, Bruceton Petroleum/BFS, Go Mart, RM Roach/ROCS, and DeFazio Oil locations.

VIENNA — The monthly meeting of the GFWC Parkersburg Woman’s Club was held June 4 at the Parkersburg Country Club. President Kathy Roedersheimer opened the meeting by introducing state President Natalie Hinkle. Pamela Santer provided the meditation and led the pledge. Table floral arrangements were made by Janet Shinsky and were later given as gifts to members.
Cooler weather works in behind cold front
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - A cold front moved through this morning which lead to a cloud start to our day but the clouds are starting to clear as we move into the evening. Overnight the clear skies will allow for temperatures to fall into the mid 50s. Any breeze we are seeing this evening is expected to calm down overnight. A second dry cold front will move through in the morning allowing for even cooler temperatures to build in. Highs for Monday are expected to be in the low to mid 70s which is about 5 to 10 degrees below average for this time of year.
Clouds and showers make a brief return
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - Clouds are starting to build back in as high pressure starts to move out of the area. Overnight we could see some isolated to scattered showers as a cold front gets ready to move through. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid 60s overnight which is about five degrees above average for this time of year. The cold front is expected to pass through tomorrow morning causing the winds to be around 10 mph in the afternoon. Highs will around 80 which is seasonable for this time of year.
Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department announces travel vaccines, STD testing
PARKERSBURG — The Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department’s Clinical Department will offer travel vaccines and a special STD/HIV testing clinic. While the Wood County building is closed for repairs after a water line break, the Clinical Department has moved to its alternate location of South Parkersburg Baptist Church’s Wellness Center, 1655 Blizzard Drive, Parkersburg.

Red Cross to recognize World Blood Donor Day
PARKERSBURG — The American Red Cross is asking for donors to come forward to protect the blood supply. “As World Blood Donor Day approaches on (Friday), the American Red Cross stresses that blood donors are critically needed right now to combat a drastic shortfall in donations over the last several weeks,” Sharon Kesselring, executive director of the American Red Cross of the Ohio River Valley, said. “With busy seasonal activities and weather always present, it’s vital donors make and keep appointments now to fight any challenges that could pose a concern to the blood supply as summer rolls on.”
41st River and Rails Bass Festival underway in St. Marys
ST. MARYS, W.Va. (WTAP) - The River and Rails Bass Festival is coming back to St. Marys for its 41st year. The festival begins Friday and will last through Sunday evening. According to president of the festival’s board of directors, Marissa Gutierrez, the event will include food trucks to satisfy a plethora of cuisines.
Suspect in Wood County double homicide being held without bond
PARKERSBURG — The man who was arrested for the recent deaths of a Walker couple is being held without bond. A bond hearing was held Tuesday before Wood County Circuit Judge Jason Wharton for Bradley Joseph Cantwell, 41, of 56 Lee’s Court, Walker, who was arrested last week on two charges of murder.
