Sophie Leitzen capped a nine-run first inning for Brodhead with a two-strike grand slam — her second hit of the frame — to help lead the Cardinals to their 10th straight win Monday in Brodhead.

Visiting East Troy showed a little life in the later innings after Brodhead pulled starting pitcher Ava Risum, including a two-run homer off the bat of Irelyn Loomis in the top of the fifth that made it 11-2 and postponed the mercy-rule finish.

Leitzen added a third hit and fifth RBI to her tally in the bottom of the sixth after the Trojans made it 11-3 in the top half, and Tessa Kloepping scored on a passed ball that made it 13-3 to end the game early.

In additon to Leitzen’s big day, Jaelyn Hilliard went 3 for 4, Karli Krumwiede had two hits, and Kloepping had a double and an RBI.

Risum pitched three scoreless innings for Brodhead (10-0, 9-0 Rock Valley), striking out five and allowing a hit, before yielding to Leitzen. All three of East Troy’s runs came against her, but she also struck out five in three innings of work in the circle.

The Cardinals are set to host Clinton at 5 p.m. Tuesday for their next game.
