Murder suspect held without bail

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The man accused of murdering a Brawley woman made his first court appearance in El Centro where he was formally charged with first-degree murder.

37-year-old Rodrigo Flores Gomez had his first arraignment on Tuesday.

Gomez is charged with murdering 36-year-old Sandy Favela Flores early Saturday morning .

The Brawley Police Department said someone had called about a domestic violence dispute.

Police say it took them less than two hours to locate Gomez where the victim was found in a vehicle.

The Imperial County District Attorney's Office said the defense attorney requested more time for the preliminary hearing.

“He is being charged with four counts one of them being a PC7A which is first-degree murder, premeditated murder, and then he is also being charged with three child abuse cases so a total of four charges," said George Marquez. Imperial County District Attorney's Office.

Gomez is being held at the Imperial County Jail with no bond and his next court date will be on May 7.

Sandy’s family wrote on their go-fund-me page saying:

"Sandy was a wonderful mother and daughter. She leaves behind her 16-year-old daughter… Five-year-old son… And her eight-month old son."
