Bottineau boys basketball’s all-time leading scorer has chosen an in-state school for where he’ll play college basketball

Carson Haerer has signed on with Williston State to play for Head Coach Alex Herman.

The Region Three Senior Athlete of the Year scored more than 28 points a game with an average of seven rebounds and three assists, leading the Braves to a spot in the state qualifier games.

The first team all-state guard chose to continue his career on the hardwood despite holding an offer from Minnesota State Moorhead to play football, and he’s excited for some of the built-in connections he’ll have in Williston for his first year of college, including fellow Bottineau Senior Kylie Simpson, who’s also signed on to continue her basketball career at the same school.

“My girlfriend is going there too to play basketball, my brother’s in Stanley, I’m somewhat close to home and I know a lot of the people that are there too so it should be fun, I should know some people, I hope to meet some new people too and I’m really looking forward to it,” Haerer said.

The future Teton has been a key part of Bottineau’s success in multiple sports in recent years, and he appreciates the people that have poured into the athletic programs throughout his high school career.

“It’s been awesome, I’m very grateful. I mean there’s a lot of people in the community that make this all happen. There’s so much support and there’s coaches putting in endless amounts of time into us and that’s what makes it so special. When all their hard work pays off in investing their time into us,” Haerer said.

Haerer is undecided on a major and plans to start with general studies.
