One of the greatest players in Cowboys basketball history has passed away. Tony Windis Sr., an outstanding student-athlete for the University of Wyoming during the late 1950s, died Tuesday night. Dean's heroics lead Plainsmen over Fillies
GILLETTE — Laramie's Rachael Dean walked away the hero during the Plainsmen's opening game of this weekend's state softball tournament. With a tight one-run lead in the top of the seventh, Cody elected to walk Laramie's Brooklyn McKinney to load the bases for the Plainsmen. The decision turned out to be a costly one, as Dean sliced a two-RBI single to left field to give the Plainsmen a 6-5 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.
Laramie's Flynn Arnold running with passion going into state meet
It'd be hard to find another student-athletes who loves their respective sport as much as Laramie High sophomore Andrew Flynn Arnold. Arnold is a true student of track and field, obsessing over ways to improve. A sprinter by nature, he primarily runs the 400-meter dash, and hopes to claim the first state championship of his career at this weekend's Wyoming Class 4A state outdoor track and field state meet in Casper.
Laramie girls soccer taking confidence into state
The Laramie High girls soccer team lived up to its top seed by claiming the Class 4A East Conference title over Thunder Basin last weekend in Cheyenne. The Plainsmen paired the tournament crown with a regular-season title to earn the No. 1 seed for this weekend’s state tournament in Rock Springs.
LEGION BASEBALL: Rangers drop a pair of road games to Sixers
The Laramie Post 14 baseball team traveled to Cheyenne for a doubleheader against the Cheyenne Sixers on Monday, dropping both games of the twin bill. Elite pitching powers Post 6 to doubleheader sweep of Laramie
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Monday night at Powers Field featured a make-up doubleheader between the Sixers and Laramie that was originally scheduled for last week. Post 6 got off to a quick start in the first game-- scoring three runs in the first and two in the second to take control of the game. The Rangers bats had no answers for what Corey Williams was dishing out on the mound, and the Sixers continued to pad their lead late. Ultimately, the home team took a 7-0 victory to get their evening started. Williams went all seven innings while surrendering just one hit on 72 pitched, and struck out 12 batters during the outing. Mason Tafoya, Nolan Horton, Kaed Coates, and Braden Pearson all had two hits to lead a balanced offensive attack. Horton and Pearson each scored twice, while Tafoya and Horton drove in a run apiece.
Taylor column: Wicks was the perfect hire for UW hoops
No one knows how to fire up a group of Wyomingites better than a fellow Wyomingite. Sundance Wicks said all the right things after being hired as the 23rd men’s basketball coach in University of Wyoming history Sunday afternoon. The Gillette native replaces Jeff Linder, who left UW for an assistant coaching job at Texas Tech after four seasons with the Cowboys.
