Noisy Weekend Expected From Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst

BORDENTOWN, NJ — If you live in Bordentown, you may be used to noise coming from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JBMDL).
JBMDL has released its monthly "Noise Level Calendar" for April 2024 so that its neighbors know what to expect when it comes to sounds coming from the Base.
The calendar is broken down into three categories: low noise, moderate noise and high noise.
After a very noisy March , this month may be slightly quieter, as only three days of “high noise” are on the agenda — two of which are happening on April 20 and April 21. However, the rest of the month — 27 days — are slated for “moderate noise.” There are no days of “low noise” on tap.
According to the Noise Calendar, "low noise" may include ground small arms and light crew weapons training, such as small arms fire and rifles; "moderate noise" may include rotary wing aerial gunnery training such as .50 caliber weapons, rocket fire or rotary cannons; and "high noise" days are reserved for heavy crew weapons training and cratering munitions which can include mortar live fire, howitzer fire and cratering charges.
JBMDL notes that noise levels are subject to change without notice due to training requirements and weather. Also, cloud coverage can extend the range of sound further away from the Base.
So, next time you hear "booms", it may be "sounds of freedom," as some residents fondly call them.
JBMDL publishes its monthly noise calendars at the beginning of each month. Check back with TAPinto Bordentown at the start of each month to see what JBMDL has in store for us.
