Wholesome snack maker Our Home plans to acquire two production plants from Utz Brands Inc. for $18.5 million.

In an April 18 press release, the Boonton-based company said it will increase its manufacturing footprint from five to seven locations by purchasing Utz-owned sites in Berlin, Pa., and Fitchburg, Mass.

After the sale is complete later this month, Our Home will co-manufacture certain Utz products for up to a year as part of a transition services agreement. The 168 workers at the two plants will also reportedly become employees of Our Home .

Our Home founder and CEO Aaron Greenwald said, “These acquisitions expand Our Home across potato chips, cheese puffs and popcorn, reinforcing our position as a leading independent better-for-you snacking platform.”

He added, "We are proud to be building a platform and team that's dedicated to creating and delivering our products and promise to customers."

Howard Friedman, chief executive officer of Hanover, Pa.-headquartered Utz, commented, “This transaction will allow us to focus on the next phase of our optimization efforts as we invest in our remaining facilities and continue to deliver on our value creation initiatives.”

“We now operate eight primary manufacturing facilities, down from 16 in 2021, allowing us to allocate more volume to our larger manufacturing facilities and better leverage our fixed costs,” said Friedman, adding, “This is all consistent with the supply chain transformation strategy we outlined at our 2023 Investor Day.”

Repeat customer

The proposed deal comes two months after Our Home purchased tortilla and cracker chip brand R.W. Garcia as well as savory snack line Good Health brands from Utz. At that time, it also added three manufacturing facilities in Lincolnton, N.C.; Lititz, Pa.; and Las Vegas.

Our Home’s brand portfolio also includes Popchips, Food Should Taste Good, Real Food From The Ground Up and You Need This.
