A developer is still working to bring a Circle K to the former Walgreens on Dawson Street. Passenger Rail Study Picks Eastern Route
It’s been more than 50 years since passenger rail linked Wilmington and Raleigh, but there’s a renewed push to bring back a passenger route between the two cities. A recently released draft of the Southeastern North Carolina Passenger Rail Feasibility Study examined the proposed rail line. The study recommends running the line through Goldsboro and offers new projections about its cost and service areas.

The Husk, YoSake Sell In Downtown Wilmington
After 18 years, the owners of downtown Wilmington's The Husk and YoSake sold the restaurants on April 30 to local business group C&C BizVentures. The three-story venue initially opened in the historic Roudabush building at 33 S. Front St. in 2006 as Roudabush Café, YoSake, and The Balcony on Dock. Roudabush became The Husk in 2011 and the third floor became Dram + Morsel in 2016.

Dawson Street was named after John Dawson, who was born in Ireland. Dawson was magistrate of police in 1851 and again in 1853. He was mayor of Wilmington when the city was surrendered to Union troops after the Civil War on Feb. 22, 1865.

Anna Walker left her home in Oak Island on October 28, 2023, and then her body was found floating in Smith Creek in Wilmington about a month later on November 25, 2023.

CAPE FEAR (WWAY) — With the first weekend of May upon us, lets take a look at What’s Happening in the Cape Fear. Beginning in Fort Fisher – the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher will be holding its ‘Star Wars Day’ beach cleanup on Saturday, May 4th. Volunteers have been asked to wear Star Wars themed costumes during the clean up for a chance to win a prize. Volunteers are also asked to bring reusable gloves and tumblers, while avoiding bringing plastic. Its happening from 8-10am at the Fort Fisher Recreation Area.
Alligator spotted in Caswell Beach; residents asked to contact officials if they spot it
CASWELL BEACH, N.C. (WECT) - An alligator was spotted on Caswell Beach Monday and Tuesday morning, according to the Town of Caswell Beach. “Yesterday, town administration requested that police notify the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) because our officers are not authorized, trained, and equipped to handle dangerous wildlife. Again, if the alligator is spotted, please keep your distance and urge others to do the same as well,” a town announcement states.
