Five area teams set to start SoCal regional baseball, softball playoffs on Tuesday
A jammed-packed postseason of Kern County high school baseball and softball will continue this week when the Southern California Regionals playoffs begin Tuesday. Section baseball champions Liberty, Bakersfield Christian, Shafter and Chavez will be joined by softball-champion BCHS for first-round play. All games are slated to start at 4 p.m.

Mesa won the Women Expert District 37-Viewfinders Sprint Enduro. She raced at Red Mountain. Where she was timed in the three tests in the sprint enduro format in five to seven miles each. The third loop is usually the more technical and challenging for the riders. She was timed at each test and her time was the best overall to claim the top spot.
Sierra Shared Spaces holds community hub event
Thursday, May 16 many groups and individuals attended the Sierra Shared Spaces community hub, at the Kern River Valley Veterans Center, in Lake Isabella. The idea for the community hub was the brainchild of a Whiskey Flat Days mayor fundraising campaign, by long time locals Justin Powers and Chris Zuber, also known as Powder Packin’ Powers and Madd Miner Zuber.
Traffic collision claims life of local youth
Friday evening at approximately 5:40 PM, as many were returning home from work, emergency first responders responded to a report of a motorcycle-versus-vehicle traffic collision. The Kern Valley Exchange Club awarded Teachers of the Year, Thursday May 16, from Kernville Union School District, South Fork Union School District and Kern Valley High School. Paradise Cove Lodge hosted the awards luncheon.
Lady Broncs season ends with CIF playoff loss
Kern Valley’s varsity softball squad ended their season when they faced a tough pitcher from Orange Cove. The Lady Broncs playing in the CIF Division 4 bracket was eliminated by the Lady Titans. Things started well for Kern Valley as they were able to jump out to an early lead. They went up 2-0 after their initial at bats. Ava Bates leading off the game reached on an error by the catcher on a dropped third strike. Brooklynn Robertson sacrificed her to second and Kayley Sietsma followed with another sacrifice to put her at third. Ava Elliott was issued the free pass and both runners would come home in the inning.
