WACO, TX ( FOX 44 ) — The Baylor Men’s Basketball program is now searching for a new assistant coach, as Florida Atlantic announced the hiring of John Jakus as the program’s new head coach on Wednesday.

Jakus will take over for Dusty May, who led the Owls to the Final Four in 2023, and most recently took over as the head coach of Michigan earlier this week.

During his time in Waco, Jakus was part of a 167-64 run with the Bears over a seven season stretch, which included a national championship in 2021.

He now becomes the fourth member of Scott Drew’s coaching tree, joining Jerome Tang (Kansas State), Matthew Driscoll (North Florida) and Paul Mills (Wichita State).

Jakus will now join FAU on a five year deal, with the school set to introduce him at an introductory press conference on Friday.
