It was a very scary situation that unfolded in the blink of an eye on Sunday afternoon in the town of Ellsworth, Maine. According to WGME 13, an Ellsworth police officer was traveling down the road on Sunday afternoon when he reportedly noticed a speeding vehicle coming the other way. The officer didn't want to waste any time in catching up to the alleged speeder, so he pulled into the breakdown lane and prepared to do a U-turn to catch up to the vehicle, the news station said.

ELLSWORTH, Maine — An Ellsworth police officer was involved in a crash Sunday afternoon that left two other people hurt. The Hancock County Sheriff's Office said Officer Zachary Chandler was trying to make a U-turn in his police cruiser using the breakdown lane at the intersection of Bucksport Road and Twin Hill Road when he hit an SUV that was driving past.

Jon Ferreira, 47, of Levant, Mason Harlow, 35, of Dedham and Carl Vincent, 50 died in the early-morning Sunday crash.

A man was tragically killed by a falling tree in Searsport, Maine during the aftermath of tropical Cyclone Lee. The unfortunate accident happened on the same day as his daughter's 5th birthday party.

Hailee Phillips lost her husband, Gary, in a tragic incident during Post-Tropical Cyclone Lee. A falling tree struck his vehicle in Searsport, causing fatal injuries. Witnessing the incident over the phone, Hailee immediately contacted emergency services.

According to a Hancock County Sheriff’s report, Deer Isle resident Lionel J. Nault, 30, was riding his motorcycle south on Burnt Cove Road at around 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, September 17. As he crested a hill, he swerved to avoid a utility truck doing power line inspections. Nault lost control of his motorcycle and was fatally injured. First responders pronounced him “deceased at the scene.”

(Deer Isle) A Deer Isle man was killed Sunday as he rode his motorcycle on the Burnt Cove Road in Stonington. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reports to Star 97.7, 30 yo Lionel Nault was traveling south about 1:05 Sunday afternoon when he crested a hill and was unable to avoid another vehicle stopped in the southbound lane as it conducted a storm-related power line inspection. Nault lost control of the motorcycle, was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say he was wearing a helmet.

Lionel J. Nault, a resident of Deer Isle, died in a motorcycle accident while trying to avoid a stationary truck on Burnt Cove Road, Stonington. The truck, driven by Ivonne Guerrero, had stopped in the lane to check on power lines after a storm.

Searsport community is grieving the loss of its resident, Gary Phillips. He tragically died during the aftermath of Post-Tropical Cyclone Lee. A large tree was uprooted in the storm, fell on Phillips' vehicle and brought down powerlines. This resulting accident led to his death. Due to the extensive injuries and the danger from the powerlines, rescuers had to wait until the power was cut off to remove him from the scene. Sadly, he passed away at the hospital later on.

A 50-year-old man died after a tree fell on his vehicle on Route 1 Saturday morning in Searsport. The crash happened around 9 am while he was driving. The Waldo County Sheriff's Office said power lines were taken down by the falling tree near Prospect Street. First responders had to wait for power to be shut off to lines on top of the vehicle before reaching the victim, according to WGME News.

BUKATY and DAVID SHARP Associated Press BAR HARBOR, M.E. -  A 51-year-old motorist in Searsport, Maine, died after a large tree limb fell on his vehicle Saturday on U.S. Highway 1 during a period of high winds, the first fatality attributed to the storm. The tree limb brought down live power lines, and utility workers had to cut power before the man could be removed, said Police Chief Brian Lunt. The man died later at a hospital, Lunt said. The man's identity hasn't been released. 

This week in Hancock County, Maine, there were three notable incidents. First, a stand-off occurred in Deer Isle when police attempted to serve a burglary warrant. The suspect resisted and assaulted a deputy and a police dog, resulting in shots being fired and the suspect being taken into custody. Second, a family is still searching for their dog, Rex, who fell off a lobster boat near Kimball Rock. Despite ongoing search efforts, Rex has not been found. Lastly, another stand-off took place in Deer Isle, with limited official details released. Police closed off sections of Sunset Road and Pressey Village Road during the incident.

(Rangeley) An officer involved shooting Wednesday resulted in the death of a man wanted for violation of bail conditions. Public Information Officer Shannon Moss reports to Star 97.7, 28 yo Shay McKenna was seen carrying a firearm he was prohibited from possessing after he was accused of killing his brother in Rumford. McKenna also failed to show for a court date earlier this week. That led to an investigation, with detectives locating McKenna in Rangeley Plantation. A Maine State Police Crisis Negotiation Team advised McKenna he was under arrest. McKenna then reportedly exited a van in which he was hiding with a rifle and a ballistic vest, got into a confrontation with and was shot by Trooper Jeffrey Parks. McKenna died at the scene. Parks is on Administrative Leave per standard protocol.
