Dearborn stockpiles fuel to keep city services running
The city of Dearborn is preparing to maintain supplies to fuel muncipal services in the event of global supply disruptions. The city is planning to "top off fuel reserves ... to maintain and sustain municipal services in response to growing vulnerabilities in global supply chains and potential instability," the city said in a news release Wednesday, Oct. 28. The cost to stock fuel reserves would be up to $50,000 in emergency funds, the release said. The goal will be to supply city vehicles and buildings, and sustain services in the event of a grid failure, fuel rationing or disruptions in fuel supplies, the release said. Examples of services the city would aim to keep providing include emergency services, transit, snow removal and "critical municipal infrastructure." Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud cited the "federal government’s disastrous foreign policy decisions." "It has now promised to restart a military campaign, in spite of the objections of the American public, which could trigger further critical fuel shortages," Hammoud said. "We know that building local community resilience requires systematic preparation and have therefore taken steps to top off our fuel reserves.” This article originally appeared on The Detroit News: Dearborn stockpiles fuel to keep city services
