Weber, Haug, Lardner and Laub help Bengals Softball to Three Straight Wins

Three straight wins and a lot of brewing confidence should give the Bloomfield High softball team a good run for the rest of the season.

Head coach Rich Adams' team won its third straight game on April 27, defeating West Orange, 9-2. The Bengals also defeated Newark Academy, 3-2, on April 24 and North Bergen, 11-4, on April 26.

Bloomfield took an 8-6 record into a game with West Caldwell Tech, on April 29, at home, starting at 4 p.m. On April 30, the Bengals visit Hoboken, at 4:30 p.m. and on May 2, Union City comes to Bloomfield for a 4:30 p.m. start.

Bloomfield will visit Montclair on May 4, in a first-round Essex County Tournament game, at 4 p.m.

Alyssa Haug and Teagan Weber led the Bengals against West Orange, with three hits each. Haug also had 4 RBI while Weber, Olivia Laub and Meagan Lardner each hit a double.

Lardner was the winning pitcher, striking out 11 in a complete-game effort.

Laub was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two walks and 3 RBI in the game against North Bergen while Olivia Gonnella had a hit and drove in three runs. Rylie Fabrazzo and Ahlexa Montalvo each had two hits and an RBI.

Weber was the winning pitcher, with eight strikeouts and no walks in another complete-game effort for the Bengals.

Strong pitching also carried the day in a close game with Newark Academy. The teams combined for seven hits, with the Bengals collecting four, in a 3-2 BHS win.

Fabrazzo had two hits and an RBI, and Montalvo had a hit and drove in a pair of runs. Lardner pitched a gem, striking out 10 in a complete-game three-hitter.
