The improvement continues for the Bloomfield High softball team.

The Bengals entered its home game with Nutley, on April 22, having won three of its last four, including an 8-4 triumph versus Kearny, on April 20. The team's only setback in that stretch was an 8-7 loss to Verona, in extra innings, on April 19. Bloomfield was 5-5 heading into this week's action.

Bloomfield will host Newark Academy, on April 24, at 4 p.m. and on April 26, it's off to North Bergen, also at 4. On April 27, West Orange visits Clark's Pond for a 10 a.m. game.

Head coach Rich Adams likes what he's seen from the Bengals.

"We had a strong week, going 3-1," the coach said. "We started out with a great come-from-behind walk-off win against a very good Glen Ridge team. We followed that up with a 14-4 win against Payne Tech."

The Bengals held a 7-4 lead against a strong Verona team, on April 19, but came up short, on the road.

"That was a heart breaker, as we went into the bottom of the seventh with the lead, but lost 8-7 in extra innings" said Adams. "It was a tough seventh inning, a few things didn't go our way, and that Verona squad is solid."

Versus Kearny the next day, the Bengals bounced back, with a 16-hit attack, to win.

"We came back back really well," said Adams. "Overall we have been playing very good softball over the past week."

Meg Lardner and Olivia Gonnella have both pitched well for the Bengals. At the plate, Teagan Weber has been a force.

"Teagan was 10-for-15 with four doubles and a homer," said Adams of Weber. "Rylie Fabrazzo has also been hot at the plate, going 8 for 16 with nine RBI and two homers, this past week."

Other notable performances at the plate included Olivia Gonnella finishing 3-for-4 versus Glen Ridge. Olivia Laub with five RBI, and a walk-off hit versus Glen Ridge, Alyssa Haag, a freshman, was 3-for-4 with two RBI against Payne Tech and Ahlexa Montalvo was 3-for-4, with three RBI, versus Kearny.

"I am very happy with the way we have been playing as of late," said Adams. "We have been getting quality contributions from a number of players, and our pitchers have been doing a great job of putting us in position to win each game."
