BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — The third day of the felony trial for the 19-year-old accused of fatally shooting 16-year-old Taryn Hohbein is now complete.

In the day’s trial proceedings, the courtroom heard testimonies from law enforcement who responded to the 911 call from the apartment where Taryn was shot.

Officer Grace Naig said she secured the premises around the apartment complex, and while doing so, saw a white Jeep speed by on Century Avenue. She chased it until she lost sight of it, saying it was going around 100 miles an hour. When she and other officers located and apprehended the Jeep, they arrested and searched the two juveniles who were in it.

When asked if anything was found in this search, Former BPD Patrol Officer Evan Johnson stated that he found a firearm located in the sweatpants of one of the juveniles, wrapped in an elastic band down by his ankle.

Officers later discovered the juveniles were present at the apartment when Taryn had been shot, and the car they were driving belonged to Taryn’s mother. After Taryn was shot, the juveniles took the keys and fled the building. BPD responders say both juveniles had been drinking, and they smelled of alcohol at the time of their arrest.

In the cross-examination, Defense Attorney Justin Balzer questioned Johnson on whether or not he would agree that the situation was highly suspicious — to which Johnson confirmed that would be the case.
