Lake Oahe body identified as Bismarck man missing since November 21

BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — A missing 41-year-old Bismarck man has been identified today as the person whose body located along the shores of Lake Oahe on April 7 in Emmons County.

According to Bismarck Police, Matthew Mittelsteadt was reported missing on November 21, 2023.  Detectives were able to find his vehicle around West Main Ave and Fraine Barracks Road.  Through video surveillance in the area, investigators were able to determine Mittelsteadt parked in that area around 2:45 p.m. on October 30, 2023, and walked to the Memorial Bridge, but was never seen walking back to his car.

Mittelsteadt was found in Emmons County on the shores of Lake Oahe Sunday evening by a group of fishermen and authorities brought the body to the Medical Examiners office in Bismarck.  An autopsy was conducted Tuesday, and his identity was confirmed.

Police says foul play is not suspected.
