BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) – Birmingham-Southern College is just over two weeks away from closing its doors for good.

Starting Friday, the athletic department will have a big sale on all things Panthers from merchandise and apparel to team trophies, plaques and banners.

The Birmingham-Southern athletic department will give the money raised during the closing sale back to the school to help pay off any debts.

“All of our 22 sports are here in one arena with all of their equipment,” Birmingham-Southern’s Sports Information Director Trey Hines said. “Obviously we’ve got to get rid of things the way things are going and so there’s stuff priced from $1 to $100.”

The Birmingham-Southern Athletics Department says it feels surreal to see everything they have laid out for sale in one room.

“Even to the last day and the last events we’re putting on, it was just in a very BSC way. Like, everyone is helping out,” BSC Athletics Digital Marketing and Media Coordinator Izzy Berkopec said. “All hands on deck like students, coaches, we had professors in here and I think that it’s really cool that everyone was supporting a good cause.”

Some student-athletes say a sale like this brings back a lot of memories of their time at BSC.

“I played football for four years here, played linebacker. And so like I’m going to buy my jersey of course and everything and just having the ability to have that jersey to keep and everything will help me remember the campus and help me remember like BSC for what it is,” graduating BSC senior Ty Armstrong said.

Hines says after going to the college and working there, it feels like a part of him is gone.

“I even know for myself, I’ll still be wearing BSC stuff and I hope people approach me that have something good to say about it or like went there so I think it will live on forever, hopefully. We’ll see,” Hines said.

Some seniors say the graduating class has grown even closer in this final semester knowing it will be the last time BSC students are on campus.

“When I came in, it was during COVID and so like this class, we’ve experienced a lot of trials and errors and we’ve had to overcome those situations and then this is kind of just another trial that we’re having to overcome,” Armstrong said. “The fact that our class gets to experience that is something that I’m kind of proud of.”

The athletics department says all are welcome to check out the sale. It will run Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., then May 20 through 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The last day of sales will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 24.
