    UAlbany men claim regular season title over Binghamton

    ALBANY, NY ( NEWS10 ) — For the first time since 2018, the University at Albany men’s lacrosse team captured the America East regular season championship with an 18-10 victory over Binghamton on Saturday night.

    The Great Danes win the title outright, alone at the top of the standings with a 6-1 conference record. The America East Championship will be hosted by the Great Danes with semifinal action set for Thursday, May 2. UAlbany will face off against Merrimack, and Vermont will face UMBC.

    Head Coach Scott Marr : “I’m thrilled for this group. Long week, a lot of challenges. Really thought we’ve been a tight team all season, but I think this week has made us even tighter. Just impressed with our resilience early in the game… Overall, really proud of our group for how they handled themselves this week and throughout the year. Excited to have the tournament at home for the first time since 2018.”

    How it Happened:

    • The Great Danes struck first with a goal from Ryan Doherty on the game’s opening possession, coming on a feed from Graydon Hogg . Binghamton tied it up shorty after on a goal from Liam Ferris.
    • Two quick goals from the Bearcats put them up 3-1 just six minutes into the contest.
    • Amos Whitcomb got the Great Danes back within one with just under four minutes remaining in the first, but Binghamton’s Matthew Keegan pushed the lead back to two goals less than 30 seconds later.
    • With 54 seconds on the clock, UAlbany’s Doherty notched his second of the afternoon on a great feed from Silas Richmond . Ben Wimmer then tied the game with just six seconds remaining in the first to tie it at 4-4, coming from behind the net for the score.
    • Binghamton re-took the lead early in the second with a score from Keegan, his third of the game.
    • The Great Danes then rattled off three-straight goals to take a 7-5 advantage. Graydon Hogg scored back-to-back goals to get the Dane Train going before Daniel Kesselring scored a highlight reel goal to push the lead to two.
    • Binghamton’s Jack Mellen made it 7-6, but UAlbany got the momentum back almost immediately with a long pole goal from Jake Piseno , his 10 th of the season, to make it 8-6.
    • Hogg completed the second quarter hat trick with 5:52 remaining, 9-6.
    • Binghamton’s Mellen made it 9-7 with 2:24 on the clock to give the Bearcats life late in the half.
    • Hogg scored once more in the final 30 seconds, his fourth of the quarter, to put UAlbany up 10-7 heading into the half.
    • The Bearcats scored the first of the second half, but three-straight from the Great Danes put the home team up 13-8 heading into the final quarter. Scoring was Jackson Palumb , Ben Wimmer , and Ryan Doherty .
    • UAlbany opened the final frame with back-to-back goals from Regan Endres and Doherty. The goal was Endres’ third of the year.
    • Graydon Hogg’s fifth of the night increased the lead to 16-8 before Daniel Kesselring made it 17-8.
    • Binghamton’s Ferris broke UAlbany’s seven-straight goals with his second of the night with 7:49 remaining.
    • Parker Emmett got on the board with 5:45, catching the keeper out of position and scoring what was essentially an empty net.
    • The Bearcats scored once more for the final goal of the game, making it 18-10.


    Next: The Great Danes move onto the America East Semifinals next Thursday, May 2. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
