A big third quarter lifted Lustre Christian over Lone Peak, 59-48, during loser-out action at the Class C boys’ basketball state tournament in Billings on Friday, March 10.

Eight straight points by Cayden Klatt and a drive by Elijah Lenihan put the Lions up by a 28-20 half-time advantage.

Lustre quickly struck for four straight points on a free throw by Braden Ewing and a drive by Lenihan early in the third period.

Ahead by a 32-22 advantage, the Lions reeled six straight points on four points by Johnslee Pierre and a free throw by Jasiah Hambira. Lustre went on to hold a 4230 advantage at the end of the third quarter.

After Lone Peak closed the gap to 42-37 during the first two minutes of the fourth quarter, Lustre responded with the next seven points on drive by Clay Reddig, a 15-footer by Lenihan and a three-pointer by Reddig for a 49-37 cushion with 3:22 left.

A pair of free throws by Klatt and a basket by Hambira, off a pass from Lenihan, put the margin at 53-39.

Lone Peak came as close as 10 points down the stretch, but Lustre put the contest away on free throws by Klatt and Hambira.

Leading Lustre’s attack were Klatt with 16 and Reddig with 11 points. Also scoring were Hambira with nine, Pierre with eight, Braden Ewing with seven, Lenihan with six and Byron Ewing with two points.

Top scorers for Lone Peak with Max Romney with 19, Gus Hammond with 11 and Juliusz Shipman with nine points.
