Berlin Brothersvalley freshman guard Coral Prosser has been fortunate to play alongside some incredibly talented teammates on her SLAAM travel basketball squad.

While many athletes and coaches on the travel circuit know of Prosser's capabilities, some people in Somerset County didn't even understand just how skilled she is. Prosser displayed her gritty and determined drive this season, helping the Mountaineers to a 23-6 record, an Inter-County Conference title and their second straight District 5 Class 1A championship.

Prosser garnered Class 1A second-team honors from the Pennsylvania Sports Writers to cap her fantastic first season with the Mountaineers.

"This is exciting. It is very unexpected," Prosser said. "I was not thinking about that at all, but it is very exciting. I am proud of myself. I couldn't do this without any of my teammates. They are so helpful. They work hard at practice and make me better. Without them, I wouldn't be able to do anything."

Prosser led Berlin with 480 points (16.6), 158 rebounds, 146 assists and 98 steals. She added 15 blocked shots. The balance of senior vets to go along with a crop of underclassmen made for a smooth transition into the varsity game for Prosser.

"The seniors played a big role in the way we came together," Prosser said. "The younger group ... we are all starting to buy in. We're going to become a much better program as we keep going. The seniors led us for what we need to look forward to in the future."

Berlin veteran coach Rachel Prosser has coached a crop of high-quality basketball players during her tenure. Her daughter is just the next one in a long line of greats.

"I thought she worked hard in practice every day," Coach Prosser said. "She doesn't take a play off. She did a nice job of filling her role to help our team succeed.

"The entire team works hard. Our program has been building for a long time. We have a lot of girls that put the time in. Coral's success comes from a lot of people buying in, working hard and being at practice on Saturday mornings."

Travel basketball has also aided in Prosser's success.

"The more you play, the more experience you have," Coach Prosser said. "She has gained experience by playing against high-level talent and athleticism, which is hard to simulate."

Coral Prosser wants the Mountaineers to flourish as she and her teammates continue their rise.

"I just want to keep working hard," Coral Prosser said. "I want to help make the people around me better. We want to win championships. That's our goal ‒ get there, work hard and be where we want to be as a team."
