Rezoning paves way for boarding school to support young Black men in Wilmington
A recent Wilmington rezoning will allow for a boarding school that intends to transform the lives of young Black men who have dropped out of school. The boarding school will be called the Hisan J. Polk Transformation Academy and will be operated by nonprofit L.I.N.C. Inc. It will take in 12 Black teens ages 15 to 18 and provide them with housing and education.
Wilmington pedestrian struck by vehicle Monday dies from injuries
A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle earlier this week has died as a result of his injuries. On Monday around 6:20 a.m., officers responded to a collision between a pedestrian and a pickup truck on the 4300 Carolina Beach Road near Orchid Road. Wilmington man pleads guilty to armed robbery charges
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - A 19-year-old will serve more prison time after pleading guilty to another armed robbery. Zy’Merion Debose, previously convicted of robbing a delivery driver in 2021, pleaded guilty to armed robbery charges on Monday, April 22. He was sentenced to 59-83 months in prison. He also pled guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon due to his prior felony convictions in 2021.
