PEORIA, Ill.—The Beloit Sky Carp were down 4-1 against the Peoria Chiefs and, as was the case several times in the six-game series, its bats just couldn’t seem to get going.

That is until the fifth inning.

Joe Mack knocked in a run with his single and Cameron Barstad later ripped a tie-breaking three-run double into left field to propel Beloit to a 9-4 win in Sunday’s series finale.

The crucial fifth frame started with Jorge Caballero drawing a walk and Yiddi Cappe and Brett Roberts both singling to load the bases. Mack sent a single to left to make it 4-2 and, after Torin Montgomery struck out, a balk scored Cappe. Barstad’s two-bagger put the Sky Carp in front for good.

The Chiefs won the series 4-2 after the Sky Carp won Wednesday's game 2-1. Beloit had been outscored 27-11 heading into Sunday’s game.

Alex Williams earned the win as he went five innings and allowed seven hits, four earned runs and five strikeouts. Jared Poland allowed a hit and walk but no runs while Tyler Eckberg, Anderson Pilar and Dale Stanavich didn’t allow a hit over the final three frames.

Cappe went 3-for-5 while Roberts, Mack and Barstad all had two hits. Anyelo Encarnacion and Joshua Baez each hit two-run homers for Peoria.

The Sky Carp are off Monday before returning to Beloit for a six-game series at ABC Supply Stadium. Tuesday’s game starts at 1:05 p.m.

• FRIDAY GAME ONE: The Chiefs blew the game open with a seven-run third inning as the Sky Carp fell 12-4 in a seven-inning makeup for Thursday’s rainout.

Mack and Montgomery each had RBI singles while Carlos Santiago hit a one-run double in the three-run first. Karson Milbrandt struggled in his start for Beloit as he allowed five runs (four earned) on four hits and five walks in just 1 1-3 innings.

Cappe, Mack and Montgmorey all finished with two hits.

• FRIDAY GAME TWO: In the nightcap, Cappe and Josh Zamora hit one-run singles but two errors led to four unearned runs in the sixth to help Peoria win 6-2 in seven innings.

Cade Gibson allowed six hits and two earned runs with five strikeouts in the three-inning performance. Pilar tossed two scoreless frames. Dakota Harris had three hits for the Chiefs, who outhit Beloit 9-5.

• Saturday: RBI doubles from Alex Iadisernia and Leonardo Bernal proved to be more than enough for Peoria, which shutout the Sky Carp 3-0.

Roberts had two of Beloit’s five hits and Ike Buxton was strong in his start: five innings, two earned runs, three walks and six strikeouts. But the Sky Carp were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.
