Beggs family loses home and dog in fire hours after Easter celebration

BEGGS, Okla. — A Beggs family is picking up the pieces after a fire killed their dog and destroyed their home after their Easter celebration.

After their parents’ home caught on fire, Emily and Elizabeth Bonham lost decades of family history.

"My dad was adopted so all of his baby pictures and everything that he had he no longer has and all of our baby pictures,” Emily said.

It was hours after celebrating Easter.

"We were all here six hours before the fire started and just had a family event, had Easter, hunted eggs all of us together and then six hours later you would have never thought this would have happened," Elizabeth said.

Their parents made it out okay. But the fire destroyed decades of family history and killed their beloved dog Max.

"When I first got here and I saw her she just fell into my arms. And she was like, ‘I am so sorry, Max was in there, Max was in there,’ and she was just devastated, heartbroken,” Elizabeth said.

Firefighters said the flames devastated the home. It was a total loss.

"The fire department actually said that since it’s such a complete loss, I mean as you can tell, there's no telling what started it. They said if it was arson the only way they would know that if the arsonist came in and said, ‘Hey I started that fire,’” Elizabeth said.

Emily is letting her parents stay with her as they figure out what to do next.

"They feel like a burden, no matter where they go they’re going to feel like a burden, the least I can do is put a roof over their heads in the time of need,” Emily said.

If you would like to help the Bonham family, you can do so by donating to their GoFundMe .
