PLUMAS COUNTY, Calif. — Plumas County's Search and Rescue team discovered 78-year-old Elmerena Waelder deceased after she had been missing since Monday. County Sheriff's officials said she was initially reported missing when a family member went to Waelder's home in Cilo to find she had been gone.

Coal Cleanup Progress Hindered by Winter Weather After Train Derailment
The winter weather slowed down the progress of removing coal spilled into the middle fork of the Feather River when a train derailed on February 11th near Blairsden. The Union Pacific train carrying 15 cars overturned 8 of them into the river, with three lying in the waters. The amount of coal spilled has still yet to be disclosed.

Fire Department Spaghetti Feed Returns
DOWNIEVILLE — Dozens of locals packed the Downieville Community Hall Saturday night for the traditional Cabin Fever Spaghetti Feed, recognizing our firefighters and EMS volunteers. The fantastic dinner was served by a host of community volunteers and the Downieville Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD). After a hiatus since 2019 due to COVID, folks were excited to enjoy Gary Gutowski’s famous spaghetti sauce as plates were piled high with delicious spaghetti, garlic bread, salad, and a vast assortment of tasty homemade desserts.

Both contestants gave compelling, fact-based speeches on this year’s topic: “For a Better World – What would YOU Change?” However, contest rules allow only one student to advance to the next level, and that is Abigail Sainsbury, who will compete on March 12 at the Lions Club District 4c5 Zone level competition.
