Monday stays toasty and dry; showers and storms return for Tuesday

Sunday night begins with just a few clouds around and temps hovering in the 70s by the late evening. High pressure off the east coast will keep our area dry tonight under mostly clear skies. With calm winds tonight, some patchy fog is possible across our river valleys. Overnight lows will stay above average, dropping into the upper 50s.
Monday morning will stay dry so expect an easy walk to the bus stop. Once the sun rises for our Monday, and stays around with mostly sunny skies expected, temps are anticipated to climb into the middle 80s. The record high in Beckley, WV is 85 so we could break some records! During the overnight, clouds look to build in from the west as our next system approaches.
Tuesday starts with rain showers likely pushing in during the early morning hours for Tazewell, Wyoming, & McDowell counties. These showers will move off to the east as we get closer to lunchtime, with scattered showers and storms possible into the afternoon. Severe weather looks to be quite limited with this system, but some heavy downpours and a few lightning strikes are possible. Temps will be slightly cooler as they only get into the middle 70s.
Wednesday should see our cold front pass through, though a lingering shower over in Pocahontas & Greenbrier counties can’t be ruled out in the morning. The rest of the day is looking much better as we bring back partly sunny skies by lunchtime. With enough sunshine, temps will go from the 50s back into the 70s by the late afternoon.
Thursday will start to feel the effects of a high pressure system down to the southeastern U.S.. As it builds in for Thursday, we’ll see a few clouds around in the morning followed by partly cloudy skies through noon into the afternoon. Combined with a southern wind, temps are looking to climb back into the 70s and even 80s in some spots.
Friday begins with a decent morning with temps starting off in the 50s. We’ll start to see our high pressure move off to the east, followed by an approaching low from the west. This system will bring the chance for a few isolated showers/storms with better chances overnight into Saturday. Highs on Friday will likely reach into the upper 70s.
Saturday sees a cold front cross during the first half of the day. Scattered showers are a good bet during the morning hours with the chance for a few thunderstorms possible later in the afternoon. The front, at this point, is looking to cross during the evening/overnight hours, with just a few lingering MTN showers possible. Highs on Saturday will be in the low 70s.
In your extended forecast, once our cold front crosses on Saturday, we’ll see high pressure build in behind it. Partly cloudy skies are expected on Sunday, followed by mostly sunny skies next Monday and Tuesday. Our next rain chances will look to arrive by that Wednesday. During this timeframe, we should temps hovering around in the 70s.
It’s spring time and that means spring burn bans are in place. In West Virginia, outdoor burning is prohibited from 7 AM to 5 PM until May 31st. Over in Virginia, burning is prohibited before 4 PM and this goes until April 30th. Continue to follow burn ban laws and make sure you do your part in preventing brush fires!
