Rate increases announced for Beckley Water Company customers

BECKLEY, WV ( WVNS ) — Beckley Water Company customers will soon see their water bills increase as new rates were announced.

According to a press release from the Public Service Commission of West Virginia, there will be five different rates across 22,500 customers beginning on June 24, 2024.

Most customers, who live in directly in Beckley, will see an added $4.47 on their average monthly bill during phase one. That is a 15.05 percent increase from current rates. In phase two, these customers will see a $4.37 additional increase, which is another 14.15 percent increase.

All other customers will see an average increase of $4.41, or 14.7 percent, increase during phase one. Phase two will then show a 13.8 percent increase, equaling a $4.30 increase.

This newest rate increase is the first part of a two-phase $4.2 million rate increase across Beckley Water Company. Beckley Water Company had previously asked for a $4.36 million rate increase in August of 2023. That would have been a 28.65 percent increase of rates all together.

This settlement was done in collaboration with the utility and Commission staff.
