I-10 reopened in South Mississippi after truck rolled in Hancock County

9:40 a.m.: All lanes of I-10 eastbound have reopened at the site of Friday morning’s crash, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol. The backup remains extensive. 9:35 a.m.: The backup on I-10 has reached eight miles, back to the Interstate 59 exchange in Louisiana, according to the MDOT traffic map.

Railroad crossing at Chevis Lee Road to close March 18-19 for maintenance

Another Wreck at McHenry Intersection

Another vehicle accident occurred this week at the intersection of Highway 49 and Beaver Dam Road. The wreck marks one week since the Stone County Supervisors voted to oppose a J-turn and advocate for the installation of a red light in the area. On Monday, February 2, 2026, Supervisors voted to oppose the Mississippi Department of Transportation’s proposed J-turn near East McHenry Road, instead advocating for the installation of a traffic light to improve safety. County officials cited a series of serious accidents at and around the intersection over the past two years, including multiple injury crashes and fatalities. Supervisors and Sheriff Todd Stewart said speeding and unsafe crossing attempts on Highway 49 have contributed to over 20 collisions, and they believe a traffic light would create safer gaps for drivers and pedestrians.
