BAYONNE, NJ  - A 25-year-old Bayonne man was arrested on Wednesday and charged with Aggravated Assault of a Police Officer after he reportedly threw punches while he was being placed under arrest.

According to Captain Eric Amato, Ranneil A. Wiggan was operating a motor vehicle when he was stopped in the area of West 31st Street at approximately 11:36 p.m. Wiggan “immediately became irate and refused to provide the officer with his driving  credentials,” a report says, and he was advised that he would be arrested if he did not comply.

After further “non-compliance,” the report says, the officer advised Wiggan that he was under arrest and requested him to exit the vehicle.

Wiggan reportedly continued to not comply and as the officer attempted to guide him out of the vehicle, Wiggan tensed his body, began flailing his arms, and punched the officer numerous times about the torso.

Once additional units arrived, Wiggan was removed from the  vehicle and continued to resist arrest until ultimately being safely secured in handcuffs.
