Harlan Co. man facing drug charges
HARLAN CO., Ky. (WYMT) - A Harlan County man is in jail after police served him with a probation violation warrant. An an arrest citation obtained by WYMT, officials with the Harlan County Sheriff’s Department showed up at a home on 4879 highway 279 in the Wallins community on February 14, attempting to serve the warrant to Joshua Maggard, 45, of Wallins.

The caller also tells the would-be victim that they can pay their bills by going to Walmart, CVS, or Walgreens, with a barcode they will be sent that will be scanned for payment.

Harlan County’s Jones named 13th Region’s coach of the year

Former chief deputy for EKY sheriff’s department dies
BELL COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - The Bell County community is mourning the loss of one of its own. David Cornelius died on Wednesday night. Cornelius worked for the Bell County Sheriff’s Department for several years, serving as the department’s chief deputy. Cornelius served under former sheriff Bruce Bennett. Cornelius also had brief stints with the Pineville Police Department and the Bell County Volunteer Fire Department.
Crews continue to battle Lee County wildfire
A wildfire in Lee County has burned at least one barn. The Virginia Department of Forestry reports a more than 500 acre wildfire is burning off Hickory Hill Road near the Blackwater community. Crews were actively working to contain the fire as of Wednesday evening. The Blackwater Volunteer Fire Department and Forestry Department crews were battling the fire. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office announced that a burning law was in effect through April 30. Burning is prohibited after 4 p.m. in the county if the fire is within 300 feet of woodland, brushland or a field containing dry grass or flammable material.
