CROWLEY, La. ( KLFY ) — A Basile man was convicted Thursday of stabbing his grandfather and godmother to death in Acadia Parish in 2020.

An Acadia Parish jury returned a guilty verdict against Detrick Nathaniel Guillory, 25, for two counts of first degree murder. Jurors ruled Guillory stabbed and killed his grandfather, John Guillory, and his godmother, Lois Guillory , on May 18, 2020 at the grandfather’s residence at 595 Noah Daigle Road in Church Point. John Guillory was blind. Lois Guillory, his sister-in-law, was his caregiver.

According to District Attorney Don Landry, a neighbor had found John Guillory’s wallet on the side of a road a half mile from the house, and when the neighbor’s husband went to the house to give the wallet back to Guillory, he saw the dead man near the doorway and called 911.

“This was a very difficult case for the Guillory family, and we are just happy that we could obtain justice for them,” Landry said. “They are very satisfied that the person responsible for these deaths will be in prison for the rest of his life.”

Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office Detective Nick Miller said he learned that the defendant had been borrowing money from his grandfather and then asking for more without paying the balance back. Prosecutors said DNA evidence and surveillance video were important to allowing state prosecutors to prove the case. Telephone records were also very important evidence presented to the jury.

Sentencing will be April 16 by 15th Judicial District Judge Scott Privat, who presided over the trial. First degree murder in this case carries a mandatory life sentence at hard labor.
