Blazers win third men’s tennis national championship
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fl. (WALB) - The Valdosta State Blazers men’s tennis program can once again call themselves national champions. Senior Christian Wedel rallied in the third and final set to seal the deal for the Blazers. Wedel won five of the last six points finishing his match 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. The Blazers jumped out to an early lead dominating doubles. Jan Skerbatis and junior Boruch Skierkier won 6-2 at the third position over Makary Adamek and Jacopo Denitto. Shortly after the duo of juniors Takeshi Taco and Xaveam Van Wijk defeated Ilian Borlee and Baptiste Mercier 6-2 for the team point. VSU also won the doubles point in the match on Feb. 16, 2024, as Flagler came back in singles winning four of the six matches for a 4-3 victory.

VHS to host Class of 2024 graduation ceremony
VALDOSTA – Valdosta High School will host the Class of 2024 commencement ceremony on Cleveland Field in Bazemore-Hyder Stadium. Valdosta High School will host their commencement ceremony for the Class of 2024 on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 8:00 pm on Cleveland Field in historic Bazemore-Hyder Stadium. Graduating seniors have been given 20 tickets each for their friends and family. Everyone attending graduation must have a ticket to enter the stadium. There are no extra tickets available at VHS or at the Board of Education. Employees of Valdosta City Schools are welcome to attend and must present their VCS ID for entry.
Police nab driver who fled from Miccosukee cops, bailed from car during traffic stop in Broward
BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Authorities arrested a driver who they said fled from Miccosukee police Wednesday morning and then bailed out of the vehicle in Broward County. The driver, who Miccosukee police identified as Gabriel Martinez, fled from an officer during a traffic stop on Interstate 75 and then crashed on U.S. 27 near Griffin Road in Broward County.
VPD Attempt Life-Saving Measure in Teen Homicide Investigation: HELP REQUESTED
LOWNDES COUNTY, Georgia – Valdosta Police Department (VPD) Officers responding to a call for help locate an unresponsive 15-year-old male lying alone in a parking lot on Saturday, May 18. The police were summoned close to midnight by a citizen calling E911 to report a shooting. The discovery was made at a Scott Park parking lot in the 1100 block of Old Statenville Road. Officers attempted life-saving measures until Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived. The juvenile was pronounced deceased on the scene.
