Northern Michigan Men honored for life saving river rescue
Some Northern Michigan first responders and a private citizen, recognized as heroes for a river rescue that saved a young man’s life back in August. The Oscoda County Sheriff’s Office honored Deputy Ryan Blair, Tri-Town firefighters Corey Newton and Cameron Thurston, and Mio resident Cody Wilson at the Mio Community Center this morning. On August 1st, the men helped bring an unresponsive 17-year-old back to shore after he nearly drowned in the AuSable river, near the Mio Hydro-Dam. Deputy Blair attempted to throw a rescue disc, but the teenager was unable to grab it.
