New hazard for St. Louis snow-plow drivers: Traffic-calming infrastructure
As the city prepares for snow removal efforts ahead of this winter, snow plow drivers are learning to navigate a new obstacle: all the new traffic-calming infrastructure. “We’re gonna hit a lot of concrete,” Streets Department Commissioner Kent Flake tells SLM. He stresses that all the new bumpouts and islands are great for slowing traffic and making streets safer, but they can make life difficult for people doing snow removal if the city gets hit with a big snow storm. Not helping is the fact that a lot of the “delineators” rising out of the concrete to signal a piece of infrastructure are themselves white.

St. Louis Public Library’s new CEO Jason Driver has no desire to shake things up
When Jason Driver comes on the job as CEO of St. Louis Public Library in January, he isn’t just replacing a well-respected leader, Waller McGuire, who ran the system for 22 years. He’s also taking over what was recently named the 2026 Missouri Library of the Year. The library system earned the accolade for how it bounced back after the tornado that hit St. Louis in 2025 and temporarily closed two of its branches, reestablishing itself as a community hub (it even opened a lending library for power tools to help neighbors who needed them).
